If you are like many people, you spend a ton of money on DVDs as you add to your library. The good news is that it doesn't have to be expensive, because there are many ways to save on your DVD purchase.
Now that everyone seems to be buying Blu-ray DVDs, standard definition discs are selling at a premium. Although high definition Blu-ray discs offer the highest standards in quality, standard definition discs are not that far removed in quality so just buy the one with the lowest price.
Get last year's DVDs at a deep discount at yard sales, flea markets and junk shops. They are cheaper, in good condition and your collection won't noticed that you bought them used.
Don't rule out any places that sell DVDs. Even used record stores sell new and used DVDs at affordable prices. In fact, their prices can be the best around town so go check them out whenever you have time.
Why buy DVDs when someone can hold your collection for you? If you are a movie enthusiast, consider joining a DVD rental service so you can just rent them without spending a fortune.
Online auction sites and stores probably offer the widest selection of DVDs available anywhere. Smart collectors keep trolling these sites until they find the best bargains.
Bookstores have many sales for DVDs because they rather carry books. To get more savings, you may want to check out the used section because the savings are huge there.
Always test out used DVDs before you buy or at least make sure there's a good return policy. Otherwise, you could buy a DVD home just to see that it skips intermittently. Some shops will let you try it out at the store, take advantage of the offer.
Even popular retailers may carry lesser quality DVDs so don't just look at the price to determine where to get your movies. Ask around, look for reviews and try each retailer out slowly.
