Taking A Pet In Your RV

By: Bill Hamilton Date: Mon, 26 Jul 2010 Time: 6:53 PM

If you are planning to take a trip out of town, you may be worried about leaving your pets behind. After all, your dog or cat is an important part of your family. Many people can't handle being away from their furry friends for an extended period of time. One great thing about traveling in an RV, however, is that you can easily take your pets with you on vacation.

Not only will you be able to show your dog a great time on the road, you will also save the money from putting your pet in a kennel. Additionally, often families go away for extended vacations in their RVs. Two or three weeks may seem far too long to be without your pet.

There are a few supplies that you will need to acquire in advance. For example, just like you wouldn't travel without getting a good RV mattress; make sure that you bring a pet bed for your dog or cat. He or she will really appreciate having someplace comfortable to sleep. Also be sure to bring food and water bowls. Keep in mind that your pet needs to stay hydrated especially if you are traveling during the summer. Also throw a few pet toys into the RV as well. You may want to buy a few new toys to keep their brains stimulated.

Just like you need a good RV mattress for your trip, your pet is going to need a good pet bed. You probably want to use the same one that you use at home. Also make sure that you bring some toys to keep your pet busy on the road. Also don't forget the food and water bowls. Your dog will need plenty of water, especially if you are traveling to a hot climate.

If you are bringing a dog with you on your journey, it is recommended to stop every 3-4 hours so that he or she can stretch, get some water and go to the bathroom. Be sure to always keep your dog on a leash. If your dog were to get lost, after all, it would quickly ruin your vacation. You can also find leashes for cats that will allow them to go to the bathroom outside. Having a litter box inside your RV would not exactly be a pleasant experience.

You are about to embark on an adventure in your RV, so why not give your pets an adventure as well? They can't say "thank you" to you, but you will see the appreciation in their eyes. Just make sure that they are safe at all times when you travel.
